Shenandoah National Park is the last big stop on our Virginia route. I’ve been eager to come back ever since I hiked through the park in 2018 on my Appalachian Trail Thru-hike. Seeing this national park as a car camper is very different from being an AT hiker, and we really enjoyed our visit in spite of some COVID-related facility closures.
We stayed at the historic Lewis Mountain campground (the same place I camped as a thru-hiker). We learned a lot about the story of this place and its role not only in the development of Shenandoah National Park, but in the national park system overall.
